Uses of Fluorescent Dyes for Dyeing High-Visibility Polyester Fabrics

Fluorescent disperse dyes used for dying polyester fibres and fabrics to high-visibility colours. Fluorescence is the emission of light by a substance that has absorbed light or other electromagnetic radiation. when the absorbed electromagnetic radiation is intense, it is possible for one electron to absorb two photons; this two-photon absorption can lead to emission of radiation having a shorter wavelength than the absorbed radiation. Fluorescence occurs when an orbital electron of a molecule, atom or nanostructure relaxes to its ground state by emitting a photon of light after being excited to a higher quantum state by some type of energy: The fluorescence quantum yield gives the efficiency of the fluorescence process. It is defined as the ratio of the number of photons emitted to the number of photons absorbed. The fluorescence lifetime refers to the average time the molecule stays in its excited state before emitting a photon.

Fluorescent dyes are considered to be those dyes which absorb and emit radiation in the visible spectral range. This limitation, only to the visible spectral range, allows us to eliminate the optical brighteners and dyes characterized by fluorescence in the near-infrared range from the group of substances under consideration.

The use of fluorescent dyes causes a significant increase in colour brightness, which makes the dyed materials more easily perceptible, or more accurately, have increased visibility . This intensified perceptibility of materials dyed with fluorescent dyes is an advantage in preparing coloured advertisements, information descriptions, road and traffic signs, and to a great extent for manufacturing sports clothing and clothing for special services, such as fire brigades and the police. Also to achieve luminous fashion shades for high visibility sports and leisure wear. Fluorescent dyes are available in three colours yellow, orange, and red.

The TERASIL is available as high quality disperse dyes that give dyers and consumers the freedom of wide color choice, with the security that the fluorescent brilliance does not fade with high wash and light fastness.

  1. This is quite an interesting and useful read. Have always wondered how does fluorescent dyes work? But was nice to know its additional properties and how does it defer from traditional dyes.Sure, Some of its properties mentioned here make it useful and favourite for use in the textile industry. Such a useful blog, thanks!
